The best beaches in Búzios

Búzios is a small peninsula with more than 20 beaches, and they are surprisingly different from each other: some are calm and shallow, others have surf, some you can only reach on foot. This is how we explain them to guests.

Quick picks

  • Families and swimming: Ferradura, Tartaruga
  • Snorkelling: João Fernandes, the rocky ends of Ferradura
  • Surf and a lively scene: Geribá
  • Small and scenic: Azeda and Azedinha
  • Wild and quiet: Forno, Brava
  • Kitesurfing and windsurfing: Manguinhos

Ferradura

Named after its horseshoe shape, Ferradura is a sheltered bay with calm water most of the year. It is where our houses are, and the beach we recommend first to almost everyone: good for young children, for real swimming and for trying stand-up paddleboarding. Beach kiosks line the sand, and next door is little Ferradurinha, with natural rock pools at low tide.

João Fernandes and João Fernandinho

Clear, calm water and plenty of fish near the rocks make these twin beaches the best easy snorkelling in Búzios. Restaurants sit right on the sand. If you only have one day for a beach beyond Ferradura, make it this one.

Azeda and Azedinha

Two tiny coves reached by a short trail from Ossos Beach, near the town centre. Beautiful water and a small-beach feel, but they fill up quickly in summer. Go early.

Geribá

The long, busy beach where Búzios goes to surf and be seen. Waves, beach bars and a young crowd in high season. Not the best choice with small children on rough days.

Tartaruga

Calm water and good beach kiosks, popular with families. The name means "turtle", and turtles are sometimes seen here.

Forno and Brava

For something wilder. Forno is reached by a trail and usually has fewer people. Brava faces the open sea, with strong waves: better for watching than for swimming.

Manguinhos

Steady wind makes this the kitesurfing and windsurfing beach. The Porto da Barra area nearby has restaurants with sunset views.

See several beaches in one day

The classic way is a schooner boat tour from the town centre, stopping at beaches like Azeda, João Fernandes and Tartaruga for a swim. It saves you driving and parking between beaches. See all the beaches on the Búzios map, and if you're still planning, read how to get from Rio to Búzios.

Where to stay: our two houses are on Ferradura Beach.

Casa Bela 21: 3 suites, private pool and ocean view, 700 m from the beach.

Casa Ferradura Beach: 4 suites, with direct beach access.
